Thanks for asking about the Canon 5D Mark IV as a good camera for photographing food. It’s an interesting question now that the 5D Mark IV is an “older” camera, having been released by Canon in 2016. The quick answer is yes, the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV will work great for shooting food shots.
Food photography requires excellent image quality and the 5D Mark IV has a 30 MB sensor that will capture plenty of detail. Coupled with a huge selection of available EF lenses, the Digic 6+ processor, and now a reduced price tag, it’s a strong candidate for creating appetizing images of edibles.
Upgrade Canon For Food Photography
The mirrorless Canon EOS R is a good alternative for a more recently designed camera to photograph food. The two cameras have the same 30 MP sensor, but the mirrorless R has a more advanced processor and is cheaper by hundreds of dollars.
Good Canon Food Photography Cameras
Additionally, you could use the newer advanced RF lenses, or with one of the EF-EOS R adapters, you could use any of the EF or EF-S (cropped) lenses.
Cheaper Alternative
If you’re on a tight budget, rather than the 5D Mark IV, you could pick up a used 5D Mark III. I’ve been using my 5d Mark III as my go-to, high-quality image camera for about a decade.
