Canon SX740 HS Camera
“I had an earlier model of this camera and loved it. This new one has too many buttons for this 73 year old. I am always inadvertently hitting the “connect to smartphone” button. Not much to hold on to, is there any way to disable that button.”
Hi Mary Jane!
Thanks for your question about disabling the connect button on your Canon Powershot SX740 HS.
I can relate to your frustration. This 63 year-old pro shooter has had similar inadvertent button pushes and dial turns over the last 20 years of using digital cameras, and most of them Canon cameras.
Even the “less advanced” point and shoot cameras like the SX740 HS have so many features, options, buttons, menus, and dials. Not only does your style of shooting mean you won’t use them all, it’s easy to get overwhelmed.
Although I have never used WIFI with any of my cameras and don’t have any direct experience with the SX740 HS, I did find a possible solution to disable your WIFI button on your SX740.
The support.USA.Canon webiste has the SX740 manual on it. Copy and past this website address: https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/index?page=content&id=ART171776 in the top of your computer and scroll down to the section on “Using an Android Smartphone to Control the Camera and Shoot Remotely.” Or use this link Connecting SX740HS
The other solution, not as convenient, is to somehow change the way you grip/hold your SX740 to diminish the likelihood of hitting the connect button.
Good Luck!
Bruce
